HEY POMONA! JUST SO YOU KNOW JULIAN LUCAS RECOMMENDS JUST VEGANA!

Text by Julian Lucas

When you think of Pomona, you usually think of mom and pop taco joints or some commercial establishment like Jack N the Crack, oops! I mean Jack N the Box, sorry easy mistake. Now, vegan or vegetarian would definitely be out of the equation when thinking of somewhere to eat healthy in the city of Pomona.

A plate of nachos can be the most perfect thing, especially when it is layered with local in house made cheese, vivid bright fresh cilantro, finely and carefully diced tomatoes, translucent cuts of onion, all topped with a constantly smokey jack fruit, which all seems to radiate. Intensely refreshing and aromatic, the house made fresca of cucumber and lime with traces of chia seeds is what you want to savor. You don’t want it to end with the last slurp from the straw. It’s cold, it’s bold, and it’s deeply stimulating.

Aesthetically speaking, there are two murals of renown self made Los Angeles artist Sand One, who I happen to know and am happy she has graced the walls of Just Vegana with her signature mural.

There is nothing quite delicious like Just Vegana. Founded by husband and wife team, Yanet and J, they have brought something special to Pomona that is long overdue. Just Vegana is located just across from Pomona City Hall on Sixth Street just south of Mission Blvd.
