Only one out of every four photographers employed by photography agencies is a woman. In 2015, women photographers made 29 percent less than men photographers on average. In the previous decade, just 22% of photographers exhibiting their work in museums or galleries were women.
The goal is to establish a forum for female photographers to expose their work to a wide range of audiences through our online exhibition, therefore eliminating gender inequity and underrepresentation in the area of photography.Thank you to everyone who has submitted their work and helped spread the tea about our open call! It was exciting to see all of the new submissions, and we appreciate you taking the time participate in the Pomonan’s online exhibition. I'm excited about this exhibition, and it was a pleasure to see the diverse interpretations of social intimacy by women photographers.
Social intimacy refers to high quality interactions and relationships with others, including closeness with spouse, friends, or family members, and it predicts mental health. (Miller & Lefcourt, 1982).
Artists in this online exhibition has made work that explores intimacy and how it translates visually in a unique way, whether in color, black & white, digital, or film. It was an honor to curate The Pomonan's second online exhibition and to include so many wonderful submissions by women photographers globally.
